What’s a buttock lift surgery?

Chronological ageing, sun exposure and weight fluctuations make skin on the whole body and particularly on the buttocks area, lose its firmness and elasticity. The buttock lift surgery has as its goal to improve the look at the specific area by removing excess skin and fat.

Who’s a good candidate?

A good candidate for a buttock lift is someone with a great excess of sagging skin at the buttock area. The procedure cannot change the skin’s quality but noticeably reduces cellulite. It is a good choice for patients who have lost significant weight but have kept it stable during the last 6 months as well as for patients who notice a significant loss of skin elasticity due to chronological ageing. Ideal candidates must be healthy and have a stable weight before deciding to proceed with the surgery. Even though a buttock lift removes excess fat it is not a lipo suction procedure and cannot deal with large amounts of fat. It concerns mainly skin lifting and tightening rather than reducing the volume of the buttocks.

Facts I need to know

The surgery is performed in an organised clinic, under general or, in some cases, local anesthesia. The incisions are made at the low back area, at the upper part of the buttocks and differ depending on the amount of excess skin and fat that must be removed. After the procedure is completed the doctor lifts and replaces the skin. A buttock lift surgery is usually combined with other procedures, like for example an abdominoplasty.

Recovery Time

After the surgery there is mild pain and swelling and the doctor suggests ways to deal with the symptoms. Patients return to work 2 weeks following the procedure however intensive exercising should be avoided for at least one month. Patients should be careful not to put any pression on the incisions nor rub them for at least 4 to 6 weeks. After this time they gradually return to their normal routine while swelling subsides. Results are permanent as long as there are no significant weight changes.

Doctor’s Remarks

The buttock lift can be performed with different techniques, depending on the extent of the problem. In cases where patients have lost a large amount of weigth only surgery can give satisfying results. It is usually combined with liposculpting and firming methods, like the minimally invasive radiofrequencies, Body Tite or even fractional RF microneedling technique, in order to rejuvenate and tighten the skin and smooth stretch maks. In cases of smaller skin laxity the problem can be solved with the help of liposculpting methods combined: lipo suction to the waist and thigh areas and fat transfer to the buttocks. Nowadays, we also have at our disposal the technique of transdermal fusion fat removal which also offers an impressive lifting effect with no pain, under local anesthesia and, more important, with no scars.
